They just don't get it.

My boyfriend and i went down to the M1 roadshow at plaza singapura today (31st march 09), as he intended to check out the LG Prada 2 handphone since he already owns the prada watch. upon arriving, we went to the LG counter and inquired about the handphones that are able to link via bluetooth to the watch. we looked at the LG Prada2 and asked about the price. the girl at the booth quoted us S$888 with a 2yr high-end contract. we were quite shocked about the price as we remembered a competitor's price was S$688 with a similar contract. she then added that the phone costs S$888 and comes with a free prada watch. my boyfriend and i were pleased as we felt it was a really great deal. i asked her when the roadshow was ending, and she replied, 'sunday, today just started'. she also mentioned that the watch given out is on a 'while stocks last' basis, and reminded us that if we were to go back to get it on sunday, they may not have any more watches to give out. we then asked her if we were to sign up for a plan with M1 today will we be entitled a watch, she said yes. We went to another service provider just around the corner to compare the packages and they quoted us S$688, but without the watch. we thought the watch was worth the difference in price, hence went back to the roadshow to confirm about the deal.
To our surprise, the m1 staff at the registration counter said that there was no such promotion!! she went behind to check with her 'boss' and came back to say that there was no giving out of watches at all for the roadshow. We went back to the LG counter to ask the promoter why so. She then pointed to the poster just next to the booth, and it was stated there clearly, free prada watch (*while stocks last). she even mentioned that there was no sale as yet of the handphone today. the m1 staff came over to see the poster and was shocked that there was even such a promotion going on. she hurried back to her supposed 'boss' to check again. she then came out telling us that the promo was meant for the previous roadshow, not for this one. We were puzzled, as why would M1, being such a BIG organisation use old posters and not even bother to make amendments??? We asked to speak to her 'boss' and he came out. He also advised that they do not have any watches to be given out for this roadshow but only at the previous one. Also that the promo was by LG, not M1. We asked him why then, did the girl at the booth tell us there would be a free watch given out, but the M1 staff said no? Were we not standing within the area of the same roadshow???? And then, ALL OF A SUDDEN, the 'boss' remembered that they had sold some sets of the prada 2 handphone today, and that the limit of 5 watches per day were all given out already. He did say that he is the in-charge and the girl at the booth is just a promoter, and that the m1 girl we spoke to, is just a counter staff. he reiterated that HE, as the in-charge, knows best and the staff don't know the full picture. He also said that there's nothing he could do about it since all watches were already given out. He did say he could help send an email to LG to check if they had extra watches or not, and if not, then he can't do anything about it as well since the promo is by LG. he also did tell us that if there isn't a physical piece of the watch available anymore, then we cannot expect them to come up with one. i asked him if he could call LG right then, he said it's impossible to do so. shocked, i asked back why impossible?? and he answered with 'it will surely be engaged'. i was shocked as he did not even offer to try, and i then asked him if he would. he said he could, but it would be pointless. he knows, as he has been in the line for 10yrs. he asked if we wanted to find a solution to the problem or not in a really rude manner, and we of course said we did. so NO call was made to LG in front of us. NO email was sent to LG in our presence as well. NOTHING was done, and yes, we wanted to find a solution to the whole thing by waiting for the 'in-charge' who knows best to send ONE email. okay, so he has been in the business for 10 years or more, he knows that LG will not pick up their calls ever, he knows that he can send them emails, he knows that they were not giving out watches at this roadshow, he knows that the poster was meant for a previous roadshow, he also knows how many sets of handphones had been sold that day, and of course!!!, he remembered that 5 watches were given out as well. why did we even bother questioning somebody who was in charge and knew everything?!?!? the moment he 'remembered' giving out the 5 sets really disgusted us. does he really think we are idiots? to first have to be confused about the different 'offers' by different staff stationed at the same roadshow, then leading us to believe that the poster was for a previous roadshow, with no apology given for the confusion. and next having to believe that all the sets were already given out for the day!! he also did not at all apologise for the inconvenience caused, and said we could take down his name and write in if we wanted to. he simply wanted to 'find a solution' and said he would call us back by 2pm the next day with an answer on whether there are any more watches available or not. it is not about the watch that we're worked up about. it's about how the whole situation was handled by an established organisation like M1. how can the in-charge lead us on and confuse us so much without any apologies?? should he have apologised to us at the beginning about the change in promotion deals, we would have accepted it gracefully. OR, if he had told us right from the start that the daily limit of 5 sets were all given out, we would have been disappointed, yes, but it would have been our loss that we missed the chance. hey!!! but then again, weren't all these free watches given out at the previous roadshow?? so where did today's 5 sets come from?? hmmmm... so much frustration and wasted time just to get the facts right! do we even know the facts yet??? the poster did state 'while stocks last' no doubt about that, but it definitely did not mention anything about there being only 5 sets daily. M1 has spent so much money on award winning advertisements and dare to mention that 'some companies just don't get it'. does M1 really get it??? the money spent on advertising..well.. shouldn't some of it go to staff training and education? we really hope that M1 can get it this time round. as mentioned, it's no longer about whether or not the phone comes with a FREE watch. how the situation was handled, how the information was being passed on internally, and to us consumers. WHO will ever be able to get it?????
